The board of the Savannah Bicycle Campaign elected three new members in March.
Brook Serano has over 10 years of experience in advising, counseling and teaching as a senior international student adviser and career adviser at SCAD. She holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of South Carolina and a M.S./Ed.S. in Counseling and Human Systems/Career Counseling from Florida State University. Serano has biked daily for transport since 2007 and chose Savannah for home in part for its walkability as well as bikeability. She has seen a number of serious bike accidents and fatalities as part of the SCAD community and therefore places a strong emphasis on safety and education for both cyclists and drivers. Brook has served on SCAD’s bicycle safety committee since 2010 and is passionate about commuter biking for dozens of reasons (exercise, sustainability, and because “it is without a doubt the best way to get around the historic district”). She is very enthusiastic about connecting public spaces, parks, libraries, schools, etc. with safe bike routes and also ensuring that low income residents are considered in bike/ped transportation planning to allow for a more inclusive community.
