Tips for becoming a bicycle friendly business

  1. Install bike racks in a high-visibility location in front of your business. Having sufficient bike parking out front is an easy way to encourage employees to bike, while laying out a welcome mat for your bike-going customers. Learn about bike parking in Savannah»
  2. Offer discounts for customers who go by bike. Even if it’s just for National Bike Month (May), a small discount goes a long-way. People who bike often make more frequent repeat trips.
  3. Keep a “loaner” lock on hand for employees. Forgetting your bike lock can add time to your commute, or can result in not being able to secure your bike at your destination. Let your employees know you’ve got their back by having a few locks on hand for them to use if necessary.
  4. Use bicycle couriers or services when possible. Sending something across town? Getting sandwiches or pizza? Use a bike service!
  5. Offer bike safety or maintenance training for employees. Learn more about our education classes»
  6. Provide secure indoor bike parking. Beef up your parking area — a secure indoor area or limited access outdoor covered parking will encourage more people to bike.
  7. Shower facilities. If you don’t have room for shower facilities in your building, talk to an area gym about providing access for bicycling employees.
  8. Provide incentives for riding your bike. In addition to health challenges, you can encourage employees to ride their bikes more frequently by offering cash or in-kind incentives.
