Celebrate National Bike Month with our May Cycle Social Ride. We’ll meet at Savannah Bicycle Campaign HQ, 1301 Lincoln St., at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19 then cruise down to Historic Grayson Stadium to watch the Savannah Sand Gnats take on the Augusta GreenJackets.

If you’re an experienced commuter or recreational cyclist, but want to try riding for longer distances, our next Bike Curious ride on May 17 could be just the ticket.
The ride leaves from Savannah Bicycle Campaign headquarters (1301 Lincoln St) at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 17.
The ride route will include Montgomery, Beaulieu and Burnside Island. The total distance will be approximately 28 miles and the average speed around 15 m.p.h.
Because of the distance and pace of this ride, helmets are required. In addition, it is strongly recommended that participants use a road bike and bring water, equipment to change a tire, cash and valid ID.
Moon River Brewing Company will host the Third Annual Matt’s Moon River Cruise on Saturday, May 2 from 2-5 p.m.
The event is named in memory of Matt Kohler, who was hit from behind by a driver on July 26, 2012 while riding his bike on U.S. Highway 80 in Bloomingdale.
The event will be held in the Moon River Beer Garden and will feature a recreational bike ride and social media scavenger hunt leaving Ellis Square at 1 p.m., following a press conference featuring local and state officials.
The Matt’s Moon River Cruise party features live music from Waits and Co, a raffle (must be present to win), a silent auction, a special beer brewed in Matt’s honor, a special tasting of New Belgium beers and valet parking for bicycles.
Tickets are $20 and available at the door on May 2. Limited edition Matt’s Moon River Cruise t-shirts will be available to those who buy tickets, while supplies last. Proceeds will benefit the Savannah Bicycle Campaign and Georgia Bikes!

Brook Serano
Brook Serano has over 10 years of experience in advising, counseling and teaching as a senior international student adviser and career adviser at SCAD. She holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of South Carolina and a M.S./Ed.S. in Counseling and Human Systems/Career Counseling from Florida State University. Serano has biked daily for transport since 2007 and chose Savannah for home in part for its walkability as well as bikeability. She has seen a number of serious bike accidents and fatalities as part of the SCAD community and therefore places a strong emphasis on safety and education for both cyclists and drivers. Brook has served on SCAD’s bicycle safety committee since 2010 and is passionate about commuter biking for dozens of reasons (exercise, sustainability, and because “it is without a doubt the best way to get around the historic district”). She is very enthusiastic about connecting public spaces, parks, libraries, schools, etc. with safe bike routes and also ensuring that low income residents are considered in bike/ped transportation planning to allow for a more inclusive community.
Dr. Dan Piatkowski
Daniel Piatkowski, Ph.D. is an interdisciplinary urban planning scholar interested in sustainable, healthy, and active transportation. He earned a Ph.D. in Design and Planning from the University of Colorado Denver as a National Science Foundation Integrative Graduate Education Research Trainee and a member of the Active Communities Transportation Research Group. He holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Environmental Planning, and a Bachelor’s degree in English, both from Arizona State University. Prior to joining the faculty at Savannah State University, he was a Research Associate at the Center for Sustainable Infrastructure Systems at the University of Colorado Denver. Current research projects include: multi-modal conflicts, street design, and travel behavior; historic neighborhoods, preservation, and active transport; social media tools in for sustainable transportation planning.
Dr. J.W. Jamerson
J.W. Jamerson, III, DDS is a native Savannahian and has been actively involved in numerous community organizations including the Dixon Park Neighborhood Improvement Association, King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation and Beach Institute, Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum. He has served in leadership roles in social, civic organizations, and numerous professional dental organizations. An avid bicyclist Dr. Jamerson enjoys travel and new discoveries, especially by bicycle.
We’re offering free bicycle valet parking again this year, right in front of the theater. We are holding a raffle featuring a variety of awesome prizes, including an EVO Classic City bicycle, generously donated by the Bicycle Link. Raffle proceeds will benefit Savannah Bicycle Campaign and the Georgia Conservancy Coastal Office.

Because of the distance and pace of this ride, helmets are required. In addition, it is strongly recommended that participants use a road bike and bring water, equipment to change a tire, cash and valid ID (required to enter Hunter AAF gate).

Volunteers ride ahead of the runners and welcome them to each historic neighborhood along the course. It’s a fun way to cheer on your friends and neighbors running in the race. Volunteers will receive SBC volunteer and Race for Preservation t-shirts.
