What’s not to love about a bike ride with style? While you may have heard of a Tweed Ride, you may not have heard of the warmer (and stripey) summer equivalent. Seersucker Rides are a great way to show off your southern, summer clothing on your bike.
Savannah will be hosting its very first Seersucker Ride on Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. (check out the Facebook event here for more details)! We hosted the city’s first Tweed Ride last February and we can’t want to host another dandy, jaunty trip about town. If you enjoyed the last one, we hope you’ll join us for another leisurely trip around town with a catered picnic in Forsyth Park afterwards.
Don’t know what seersucker is? Well, here’s a quick rundown of the fabric: it’s a light cotton fabric that typically has white with blue, pink or yellow stripes. The cotton is great for the summer (or spring and fall in Savannah) because it’s so breathable and easy to wear. You may have seen a seersucker suit at a summer wedding or on a tour guide around town.
Don’t have any seersucker in your closet? Don’t worry! We love you in seersucker or not – try to dress for the theme with some dandy cycling attire, even if it isn’t in this particular textile. If you do want to wear it, we recommend scoping out the Goodwill and thrift stores around town. You might find a nice outfit!
