Third Annual Matt’s Moon River Cruise scheduled for May 2

MMRC_15Moon River Brewing Company will host the Third Annual Matt’s Moon River Cruise on Saturday, May 2 from 2-5 p.m.

The event is named in memory of Matt Kohler, who was hit from behind by a driver on July 26, 2012 while riding his bike on U.S. Highway 80 in Bloomingdale.

The event will be held in the Moon River Beer Garden and will feature a recreational bike ride and social media scavenger hunt leaving Ellis Square at 1 p.m., following a press conference featuring local and state officials.

The Matt’s Moon River Cruise party features live music from Waits and Co, a raffle (must be present to win), a silent auction, a special beer brewed in Matt’s honor, a special tasting of New Belgium beers and valet parking for bicycles.

Tickets are $20 and available at the door on May 2. Limited edition Matt’s Moon River Cruise t-shirts will be available to those who buy tickets, while supplies last. Proceeds will benefit the Savannah Bicycle Campaign and Georgia Bikes!

The goal is to educate the public on how to safely share the road with cyclists and promote efforts to make our streets safer for people who ride bikes. Buy your tickets today!

June 17 Cycle Social will feature Bowerbags demo

This month’s ride will depart from the south end of Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 and wind through historic district neighborhoods, bound for Moon River Brewing Company. In addition to the usual fun, food and beverages, our June Cycle Social will feature a demonstration of a new modular bag system — designed for bicyclists who ride to work, for fun or for everyday errands — from Bowerbags, a Savannah-based company.

“Bowerbags™ is proud to announce the launch of our new modular travel system inspired by the needs of an active lifestyle. Bowerbags understands there are different bags for different occasions so we developed a versatile system that adapts to life’s carrying needs in real time.

Bowerbags will demo five distinctive bags that transform into one super bag at the Cycle Social event on June 17. Our hip bag, shoulder bag, bike bag, duffel bag and signature three-way configurable base bag all connect to each other through our patented click-n-pop Bowerbuckles. With our system we encourage you to, Make It Yours. Come join us for a demonstration.”

As always, helmets are strongly encouraged. Don’t forget your lights for the ride home. If you can’t join us for the ride, meet us at Moon River at 6 p.m. If the weather is nice we’ll be in the beer garden. If not, we’ll be inside. Planning to attend? Join the Facebook event.

Is there a particular topic you’d like to talk about? Email us at info@bicyclecampaign.org and we’ll put it on the agenda.
