Grab your bike, don your tweed or other cold weather clothing, and get ready for the Sixth Annual Savannah Tweed Ride! The ride will leave from Grayson Stadium at 2 p.m. to go on a beautiful, leisurely ride around the picturesque Daffin Park-Parkside Historic District. We invite you to dress up in your dandiest cycling gear and enjoy post-ride refreshments from The Sentient Bean and Auspicious Baking Co. in Daffin Park. The ride and refreshments are free. This year’s Tweed Ride is co-presented by the Parkside Neighborhood and sponsored by Don Callahan Real Estate Group.
Society of Important Cycling Knowledge: Cables and Housing
Explore the esoteric world of cables and housing with the Society of Important Cycling Knowledge. Learn how cables are used in braking and shifting, how to identify worn or damaged cables, and how to replace cables when necessary. This S.I.C.K. session is free and all participants receive a free bike light set.
Battle of the Bikes 4
Join us at PERC Coffee Roasters. on Friday, Dec. 7 for Battle of the Bikes 4! See who will win the annual bicycle repair olympics! We’ll have teams of mechanics from local bike shops in a relay race, where each team has a given number of kids bikes to refurbish and see who can complete the repairs first. All reconditioned bikes will be given to deserving children through our partnership with Blessings In A Bookbag, Inc. The event is free for SBC members. Suggested donation is $5 for nonmembers. The Prowl Food Truck will be on the scene!
Holiday Bike Drive 2018
Our New Standard Cycles program is seeking donations of children’s bikes for our annual Holiday Bike Drive in conjunction with Blessings in a Book Bag. After volunteers recondition the bicycles, they will be given to deserving children selected by Blessings in a Bookbag on Dec. 16.
We have a limited amount of time to refurbish the bikes, so badly damaged bikes cannot be accepted. We can handle a little dust, but not lots of rust. Want to help us refurbish the bikes? Sign up here.
Bikes can be dropped off at 1301 Lincoln St on the following days and times:
- Thursday, Dec. 13 from 9:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Savannah Bicycle Campaign invites community to participate in Sixth Annual Savannah Cranksgiving on Saturday, Nov. 17

Nov. 12, 2018 Savannah, Ga. — The Savannah Bicycle Campaign’s fourth annual Savannah Cranksgiving Ride is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17. Cranksgiving is bicycle-powered food drive benefitting Emmaus House. Founded in 1982 by a group of downtown churches, Emmaus House provides food and day services to the homeless and needy of Savannah. Breakfast is served at 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, fifty weeks each year.
Registration for the ride starts at 1 p.m. at the Savannah Bicycle Campaign office at 1301 Lincoln St. (Corner of Henry and Lincoln streets). At registration, participants will receive a shopping list of items needed by Emmaus House. The challenge begins at 1:30 p.m. when riders roll out to shop by bike. Participants will buy items from the shopping list without going over $15-20 price limit. Riders may compete by themselves or on teams. Prizes in the following categories: Most Items Carried by a Single Person, Most Stores Visited, Best Team Effort, and Most Innovative Cargo Rig.

About Cranksgiving: Cranksgiving started in New York City in 1999, and there are now nearly 80 independently organized events across the globe. The event has its roots in bike messenger alleycat races, but there are no requirements other than “get food” and “do it on a bike.” This year Cranksgiving celebrates its 20th Anniversary.

The ride will be approximately 6 miles and be great for beginners, commuters, racers and everyone in between!
