2023 Bike There Challenge

Celebrate National Bike Month by participating in the Bike Walk Savannah “Bike There Challenge”!

Biking every day has many health benefits — including increasing muscle strength, mobility, and decreasing stress — but also helps our environment. Many of our motor vehicle trips are under 2 miles, and can easily be replaced by a short bike ride. Sign our pledge at to commit to making at least one trip each day by bike. Whether you’re biking to work, to school, to the grocery store, or around your neighborhood, you’re making a difference!

Need some inspiration? Check out our Bike There Challenge BINGO card. Complete a row, column or diagonal and receive a free BWS membership — complete the full card to be entered to win a prize pack!

Eighth Annual Matt’s Moon River Cruise

The Eighth Annual Matt’s Moon River Cruise, presented by the Law Office of Joseph J. Steffen, will be held virtually May 21-26 — from wherever you are.

The event is named in memory of Matt Kohler, who was hit from behind by a driver on July 26, 2012 while riding his bike on U.S. Highway 80 in Bloomingdale.

On Friday, May 22, we will post a variety of routes ranging from 4-25 miles for all to enjoy in Savannah. These rides do not need to be completed on Friday — rather, they are a suggestion of routes to take at your leisure. Participants are encouraged to post photos on social media, tagging @BikeWalkSav, #MMRC8, #BikeWalkSAV, #BikesUnite. Want to share your route from outside Savannah? Email us at info@bikewalksavannah.org.

The goal for Matt’s Moon River Cruise is to educate the public on how to safely share the road with people who bike and promote efforts to make our streets safer for all road users. Donations are requested to support our education programs and efforts with New Standard Cycles, providing bikes for people in need of transportation.

Helmets are highly recommended for any rides.
