SUMMARY:Savannah River Crossing Long-Term Solution Public Information Open House
DESCRIPTION:As the fastest-growing port in the nation\, the Port of Savannah is a\nsignificant economic engine for the Savannah region\, the state of Georgia\, and the nation. However\, the Port’s limited accessibility potentially stifles future growth and in turn\, the region’s ability to compete with other ports. \nAlthough structurally sound\, the 185-foot clearance of the SR 404 Spur/US 17 Bridge limits larger\, more commercially viable ships that are becoming increasingly common on the world’s oceans from navigating beneath the bridge to access the Port of Savannah’s terminals\, located upriver from the bridge. \nThe Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) seeks to address the Port’s limitation by evaluating long-term improvement alternatives to the existing SR 404 Spur/US 17 Bridge over the Savannah River. Once a preferred alternative is determined\, the project will advance to the preliminary engineering phase. \nJoin GDOT and local partners at an in-person Public Information Open House on May 20 from 6-8 p.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center.
